Barnham Cross
We’re working to shape the future of Barnham Cross through placemaking and community-led improvements, together.
By teaming up with residents, community champions, and local partners, we’re co-creating a shared vision for the estate. Through open conversations and consultation, we’ll support the community to take the lead in shaping Barnham Cross - not just for today, but for future generations too.

Bringing the Vision to Life
On Wednesday 13 May, we invited residents to Fulmerston Church to come and see how your vision could be brought to life. Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and ideas. Your feedback is really important and is helping to shape the future of Barnham Cross together.
Tell us what you think
If you were not able to attend the face-to-face session, you have the chance to take a look at the information we shared below, and leave your feedback until Friday 5 June 2026.
The Vision
In December 2025, we held a workshop to reaffirm the vision for the future of Barnham Cross with you and we shared your feedback with you in a brochure.
From everything you've told us, we know that you want Barnham Cross:
Community Champions
We're looking for local volunteers who would like to help shape the future of the area. Community Champions play an important role in helping us stay connected with residents, and making sure residents' voices are heard.
As a Community Champion, you'd be expected to:
- Let us know what you're hearing in the community
- Share information with neighbours and friends
- Help us understand what's working well, and what could be improved
- Act as a sounding board, helping us check our messages are clear
What's been happening to keep the vision alive?
Youth Engagement - Queensway Academy
We’ve been speaking to young people on the Barnham Cross Estate about the future of where they live.
Our first workshop focused on exploring where they currently live, including existing routes and places they like/dislike. Students shared their ideas, added drawings and discussed what could be improved. Suggestions included more seating, better play equipment and shelter, alongside some more imaginative ideas (submarines and dog hotels)!
After taking a few weeks to digest, we went back to the students to revisit their ideas from workshop one, explore precedents, sketch out ideas and build simple 3D models to bring their concepts to life.
Keeping your estate tidy
As part of the Great British Spring Clean, we got stuck in with a series of litter picks across Thetford, including at the Barnham Cross Estate.
With some help from local volunteers, we joined Thetford Town Council, Serco, Breckland Council and Havebury Homes to lend a hand keeping the communities we provide services to clean and tidy!
Bulb Planting
We’ve been brightening up Barnham Cross together with local volunteers and town council staff!
Around 2,000 wildflower bulbs – a mix of wild daffodils, grape hyacinth and snowdrops – were planted around trees, verges and other spots around Barnham Cross.
The idea was thanks to neighbourhood resident Jane (right in the photo), last year named Thetford in Bloom’s ‘environmental champion’. Jane spotted an opportunity to brighten the neighbourhood, and we were happy to help make it happen.
Garage Demolitions
In 2025, we demolished some garages on Kimms Belt, Oak Close, and Mingay Road.
Residents told us they wanted more parking and less anti-social behaviour, so this was one way we responded. Removing the garages made space for more cars and helped open up areas that were previously dark and hidden, making them less likely to attract anti-social behaviour.
Lighting and Path Updates
After a site visit and speaking to residents at the Fulmerston Church Coffee Mornings, we found out that residents didn't feel safe in certain areas of the estate.
We worked with our Neighbourhoods Team to install some new solar lights to make the routes safer for residents and users and also had a low lying pole removed and the path resurfaced to prevent trips and falls.
Everything that we do in Barnham Cross, together with our community partners, champions, and you, is with the things you want for your estate in mind.
