RTS electrical meter switch-off – what you need to know and do
The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) network is set to be switched off on 30 June 2025. If you have an RTS electricity meter, you’ll need to upgrade it before then, ideally to a smart meter, to avoid potential issues with your heating, hot water, and energy bills.
Why it's important to take action
• Your heating and hot water may not work properly- staying constantly on or off, or changing at the wrong times.
• You may receive incorrect bills, as your electricity usage may not be recorded accurately
• You’ll have fewer energy tariffs to choose from
What you need to do
- Check if you have an RTS meter
If you have an RTS meter, your energy supplier should contact you to arrange a replacement before the switch-over. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, reach out to your energy supplier for confirmation - Respond to your supplier to upgrade your meter
The most common and best option is to replace it with a smart meter, which can be programmed to offer a similar service. - Arrange the upgrade as soon as possible
Speak to your energy supplier about booking a meter replacement ahead of the June 2025 deadline. - Find out more on the Ofgem website here
